- ItemBasic principles in fishing gear designs and fish capture(Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, 2000) Kunjipalu, K.K.Many factors enter into the choice of the fishing method and gear used to catch particular species of fish in a particular area. Some of them are discussed here.
- ItemBehaviour of fish in relation to fishing gear and methods(Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, 2000) Kunjipalu, K.K.Knowledge of the behaviour of fish in relation to fishing gear and fishing methods is a requisite to design, construct and operate fishing gears effectively. Few studies have been made in this line mainly due to difficulties of making underwater observations and measurements in the vicinity of fishing gears, especially in deeper waters. Light meters, and other instruments for measuring the stimuli produced by fishing gears and the fish themselves have been of major significance to study fish behaviour.
- ItemCommercial fishing methods(Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, 2000) Kunjipalu, K.K.The bulk of the world's seafood supply continues to come from the stocks of ocean fish and other marine creatures. To many the methods and equipments used by fisherman appear to be crude and unsophisticated. Technology, sophistication, complexity and investment in vessels and equipment, together with techniques of finding fish and onboard transportation of fish and post harvest technologies are showing rapid growth. Increasing investment in research and development is continuously improving the efficiency of operations and conditions under which fishermen work.
- ItemDesign of purse seines and fishing method(Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, 2000) Kunjipalu, K.K.Purse seine is a long wall of webbing without prominent bunt or bag. Webbing almost hangs straight down between float and lead lines. Main body is with uniform mesh. After encircling, seine is pulled aboard from one end only to concentrate fish on the other end.
