Some of t he mari t ime States in I ndia have com pleted the first phase of the general • mecha niza t ion • programme. namely-t he instal­ lation of engi nes for propulsion in the existing fishing boats (Sct na, 1955; Deshpandc. 1958; Gurtner, 1958; K uri ya n a nd Balasubra manya n, 1 959).
