The incidence and distribution of Vibrio vulnificus in marine and brackish-water fish and shellfish from coastal areas of Cochin on the west coast of India were studied. For marine fish collected in very fresh condition from vessels, a level of incidence of 16.6% was noted. Frequency of isolation was greater from the intestine than from the muscle. The greater Most Probable Number (MPN) count determined by the three tube method ranged from 15 to 910 g-1 in the positive samples.en_US
