dc.description.abstractReservoirs are important impounded water bodiesthat serve multiple primary objectives like irrigationand power generation besides supporting othereconomic activities like fisheries and tourism. Thiscommunication discusses a governability assess-ment framework that can be used to assess andunderstand the various competing systems in areservoir to achieve better management strategiesfor sustained fisheries. Fisheries is often an ancillarybenefit activity in reservoirs and the agenciescontrolling fisheries are often dependent on otheractors for its regulation. Decisions by the ownerDepartments have an impact on fishing activitiesand management of fishery is thus complex, andsynergy between the agencies is primary factor forbetter management that supports livelihoods, whichcan be complimented with technical solutions tofishery related issues. The two steps in a four stepassessment framework adapted is being discussedwhere the fisheries governance problems in reser-voirs and the system properties- system to begoverned; governing system and governing interac-tions, are presented.
