The increasing scarcity and high cost of wood have made Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) a suitable alternative for boat building. The advantages of FRP like series production capabilities, corrosion resistance, long life, less maintenance cost, smooth lines leading to less resistance, and high strength relative to its weight are compelling boat builders to switch over to FRP. The present communication deals with the material aspects, production and performance of a 7.60 m OAL FRP pole and line fishing vessel designed and constructed for Lakshadweep waters.en_US
