Bottom or demersal trawling continues to be one of the most important fishing methods of the world. In view of the increasing evidence on the ecological consequences of bottom trawling, it has become necessary to incorporate modifications of varying degrees to the existing trawl systems. In trawl design improvement, the aim should be to produce a trawl system which can selectively and efficiently catch fish with minimum ecological and environmental impacts and at low operational costs.en_US
