Principal energy inputs relating to fishing activities are materials for vessel copstruc tion, diesel oil, and m:= n;-power. fishing industry uses diesel oil in each of its sector.activities namely catching, processing and,ma•rketing (transport). It is estimated that on a global basis, 16 million tons of oil is used per year by both small scale and large scale fisheries sectors put together. Due to the fast depleting conventional major energy sources like petroleum, coal etc the need for effective conservation and an i ntegrated energy policy on techno-economic grounds is attracting more attention in energy management circles.en_US
