The term fishery vessels used in this paper comprises mobile floating objects of any kind and size operating in fresh water, brackish water and marine areas, used for catching, transporting, landing, preserving and / or processing of fish, shell fish and other aquatic animals (excluding whales) residues and plants. Also included are vessels performing other functions related to fisheries such as supplying, protecting, rendering assistance or conducting research or training. From the variety of fishery vessel types operating, the world over, the most representative ones have been selected for description in the FAO classification.en_US
