Oil and meal industry.(Society on Fisheries Technolohist(India), 1974) Madhavan, P.; Nair, T.S.U.; Balachandran, K.K.The author reviews the advances in the oil and meal industries related to the oil sardine fishery (Sardinella longiceps) since the 1920s. Data on the production of by-produced produced in Kerala over the period 1964- 69 are tabulated. Details of the properties of the commercial oil are given, and the values compared to those for other similar oils. The use of the fish for industrial purposes - the oil has been used to cure leather, temper metals and as fungicides or insecticides - and the production of fish meal and fish protein concentrate are considered.
- Itema small scale fish meal dryer(Society of fisheries Technologists (India), Cochin, 1970) Chakraborty, P.K.; Pillai, A.S.; Balachandran, K.K.A batch type rotary drum dryer for the production of fish meal suitable for operation in the fishing villages of India has been designed, fabricated and operated successfully . The dyer can be used for production of fish meal from whole lean fish or press-cake from fish body oil extraction plants . The time taken to reach a moisture level below 10% is 5-8 hours depending upon the type of material fed into the dryer .
