Abstract
Frozen shrimp is an export oriented product. It accounts for over 80% of the earnings from the exports of various marine products. There are 3 main types of pack - HL, PD and PUD with 10 to 15 size grades in each type. As this item has to compete with similar products of many other countries in sophistiocated markets, the quality of the product ios very important. To maintain high quality of the product, specifications are laid down and the Export inspection agency conducts preshipment inspection of the lots to ensure that the products meet these specifications. To understand the distribution of the different types of pack in the exported lots, the representation of the different size grades in these lots and the incidence of rejections, a study was conducted for the entire three year period of 1983-'85 for the shrimp freezing plants located at Cochin and the results are reported here.
