Water hyacinths in canals like Karanakkodam Thodu and Thevara-Perandoor Canal obstruct the flow of water, causing inundation in nearby areas on rainy days. According to opposition in Kochi corportion, many machined procured through Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML) funding for silt removal in the city are lying idle. Corportion authorities are unable to ensure that the machines are operating properly.
