Increase in the number of motorised fishing vessels coupled with ever increasing fuel cost has resulted in a decrease in earning per unit of fishing fleet. fuel consumption of medium size trawlers operating from Cochin and Mangalore and the outcome of measures adopted to reduce it are analysed. By redesigning the propellers of these vessels an average fuel saving of 205 can be achieved. A general account of the principles for redesigning is given.en_US
