- ItemImpulse generator for electrical fishing(Society of Fisheries Technologists(India),Cochin, 1967) Namboodiri, K.S.Since impulse current has been found to be more economical and more effective for conducting electrical electrical fishing, an impulse generator was designed and fabricated. The principle and description of the impulse generator are given in the paper. Eventhough it is not giving theoretical value of the impulse voltages has been found that for conducting electrical fishing it is producing necessary voltages.
- ItemOperational depth telemeter for use in fishery practice(1969) Sivadas, T. K.An electronic instrument capable of measuring the depth of operation of fishing gear or any other object in the range 0-100 m with an accuracy of ± 1 m is described. The main components of the instrument are a hydrostatic inductive type pressure transducer and an electronic solid state indicating meter. The range of measurement can be extended considerably (up to 1000 in) by making easy adjustments in the instruments. The advantages of the instrument over those currently in use are its light weight, ruggedness and low cost.
- ItemIndigenous substitutes for` lignum vitae' for making stern bearings for fishing boats(Society of Fisheries Technologists(India),Cochin, 1969) Velu, M.; Sivadas, T.K.Difficulties are very often encountered in selecting proper material for making stern bearings for fishing boats. Conventional materials such as white metal, bronze etc wear out too fast also causing considerable wear to the propeller shaft. Lignum vitae, a natural wood commonly used for this purpose, is not available on a commercial scale in our country. Results of trials carried out to find out suitable substitutes for Iignum-vitae from among indigenous timbers are presented in this paper.
- ItemA small scale fish meal dryer(Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), 1970) Chakraborty, P.K.; Pillai, S.A.; Balachandran, K.K.A batch type rotary drum dryer for the production of fish meal suitable for operation in the fishing villages of India has been designed, fabricated and operated successfully . The dyer can be used for production of fish meal from whole lean fish or press-cake from fish body oil extraction plants . The time taken to reach a moisture level below 10% is 5-8 hours depending upon the type of material fed into the dryer.
- ItemUnderwater warp tension meter(Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), 1970) sivadas, T.K.A self contained electronic solid-state instrument capable of measuring the tension between the different parts of a trawl net in operation, has been designed and developed for the measurement in the range 0 to 300 kg with an accuracy of -t- 2 kg . The instrument is useful for measuring the resistance to motion of various accessories of a trawl net . It consists of an inductive type underwater tension transducer and an electronic indicating meter kept on board the vessel, both the units being connected by electric cable .
- ItemInstrumentation in fishing gear research(1970) Sivadas, T. K.
- ItemEquipment for removal of sand from beach dried spratts(1970) Chakraborty, P. K.Sand adhering to spratts (a major item of dry fish exports from India) dried by the conventional sun-drying technique, affects adversely the export quality of the fish. A simple equipment designed and fabricated for the removal of sand from the fish is described. The equipment consists of a wire mesh drum provided with three horizontal coir brushes supported on a central shaft. The drum and the brushes rotate in opposite directions, providing the desired abrasive action for cleaning the fish. The operational conditions for attaining maximum cleaning efficiency (removal of 70-80% of the sand originally present) have been worked out.
- ItemInstruments and data acquisition systems for research on trawl nets(Society of Fisheries Technologis(India), 1971) Sivadas, T. K.
- ItemDevelopment of an electric trawl - I - Reaction of shrimps to low volt direct current(Society of Fisheries Technologis(India), 1971) SreedharanNamboodiri, K.Preliminary attempts were made to assess the effect of direct current on shrimps and to see whether the shrimp could be guided in large numbers into the fishing net by using a current of appropriate voltage without scattering them away as it happens at present. This communication is the first in the series of studies and primarily deals with laboratory equipments and experimental procedures followed
- ItemThermal insulation boards from coconut pith(Society of Fisheries Technologis(India), 1971) Rao, C. V. N.; Prabhu, P. V.; Venkataraman, R.Processing technique and physical characteristics of thermal insulation boards prepared from coconut pith using rubber latex as the binding agent are reported in this communication. In view of the easy processing, low cost and comparable physical properties with other insulating materials available indigenously, manufacture of these boards appears to be promising.
- ItemAn instrument for the measurement of the variations in mesh shapes of fishing nets during operation(1971) Sivadas, T. K.A solid state electronic portable instrument developed for the measurement of the variations in the dimensions of the meshes of fishing nets during operation is described. The instrument consists essentially of an inductive linear transducer and an indicating meter kept on board the vessel, both being connected by electric cable. The accuracy of measurement is ±2 mm.
- ItemDesign of refrigerated sea water plant for preservation of fish(Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), 1974) Pillai, A.S.To study the feasibility of employing refrigerated sea water on board fishing vessels for the preservation of fish, a pilot model has been designed, the details of which are presented in this paper .
