- ItemTechnology transfer in fishing technology(Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, 2000) Balasubramaniam, S.; Srinath, K.As a result of researches conducted by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin since its inception in I 957, several technologies have been evolved in the field of fishing craft and gear technology. In order to increase the fish productivity per unit effort, the extension organisations in the various states and union territories have a major role and these organisations exert control over vast manpower resources and budgetary allocations. Due to the existence of wide choices among the attisanal fishermen for the adoption of various indigenous and improved fishing technologies, planned schemes are required to bring about desirable changes in the technology adoption so as to improve the productivity and standard of living of fisherfolk. Further, mere allocation of funds in the plans or implementation of selected projects without appropriate extension orientation will ensure the successful technology transfer to the clientele system.

It is helping people by means of education to put useful knowledge to work for them. This process is the essence of extension education. Extension education is the means of achieving community development. Empowerment of people is an integral part of rural development process, which can be achieved through extension education. Extension education and skill in its use will ultimately determine the success of development programmes.

The important purpose of constructing these economic equations is to work out the optimum or most efficient combination of inputs for a given output. This is done through a variety of methods ranging from linear programming techniques to multiple regression techniques. The optimum or most efficient combination of input for a given output is that combination from which slight or marginal change of inputs reduces the output.

The dynamic food processing industry in country has largely been export oriented. Exports have steadily increased through traditional frozen products, especially shrimp, continue to dominate our products mix India has been attempting to diversify its products and frozen fish, cephalopods and specially products are also finding markets abroad. Diversification of markets, value addition, and introducing modern marketing strategies etc. can fetch better unit price for aquatic products.
