of food, seafood ranks third
with respect to consumption.
This more than explains the
importance of fish. Fish is a vital
source of nutrients for people
across the globe. It is the most
important single source of highquality
digestible protein, providing
approximately 16 per cent of the
animal protein consumed by the
world’s population. By any measure,
fishes are among the world’s most
important natural resources.
