- ItemConservation of energy in fish drying(Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), 2010) Joshi, P.N.The total fish production in India is 6.4 million t of which about 3,4 million t is from inland and 3.0 million t from marine sources (Ayyappan and Diwan, 2007). Fish are an extremely perishable foodstuff. Spoilage occurs as the result of the action of enzymes (autolysis) and bacteria present in the fish, and also chemical oxidation of the fat which causes rancidity.
- ItemDesign and fabrication of a tilting kettle for fish processing industries(Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), 1982) Joshi, P.N.An electrically heated stainless steel jacketed kettle of 80 litter capacity working at a steem pressure of 1.06 kg f cm -2 has been designed and fabricated for cooking fish and prawn in the fish processing industry. The equipment which is provided with tilting arrangement and operetional controls aloows cooking at a constant temperature under highgienic conditons . The details of the disign, construction and operation are discribed the cost of equipment is about Rs.8000. The economics of operation are also presented.
- ItemA fryer for battered and breaded fishery products(Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), 1998) Joshi, P.N.A frying battered and breaded seafood products was developed. It consist of a stainless steel vessel designed to minimise the quantity of oil and obtain maximum heating efficiency and is provided with an internal heating system with temperature control. The equipment can be used to deep fry about 200 cutlets and similar products per hour. The fryer could be used advantageously by small scale caterers and fast food restaurant operators.
- ItemInvestigations on selected mechanical properties of ferrocement and polymer Impregnated ferrocement(Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), 1982) Joshi, P.N.; Ravindran, K.The mechanical strength properties of ferrocement wre investigated with reference to uniaxial tension, compression and flexure from deflection, cracking and ultimate strength. The effects of impregnation of polymer and that of incorporation of fly-ash in ferrocement on the mechanical properties wre also studied. The data were further analysed in relation to specific surface and re-inforcement factor. The failure modes of impregnated ad unimpregnated ferrocement are also discussed.
- ItemSafety in refrigeration plants and cold storages(Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), 2002) Joshi, P.N.; Manoj, V.S.; Maheswaran, K.Refrigerants used in refrigerating plants become hazardous only in the event of leakage or of bursting or explosion as a result of internal over pressure. Problems resulting from mechanical failure of pressurised components or pipes, excessive temperatues, fire or explosion, corrosion, erosio and vibration are common causes of reduced component stregth, work hardening and metal fatigue. Although freon refrigerants are non-flammable, ammonia is preferred to freon for reasons of economy. Ammonia leaks in refrigeration systems are commo and amonia is flammable in the rage 15% to 28% by volume in air . With the advent of newer materials for construction and insulation, use of better methods of materials handling and increased emphasis on energy conservation, great care is going into the planning, designing and construction of cold storages. These new systems and materials, while improving the operating efficiency, also increase the problems of fire safety in cold storages.
